Nike SB x Geoff McFetridge Paper Dunk High

The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA) celebrated the opening of its dazzling “Art in the Streets” exhibit on Thursday, April 14.

Skate icon Lance Mountain, along with artist Geoff McFetridge and the cooperation of California Skateparks, produced a skateable art installation that will see weekly sessions by the Nike SB team.

To commemorate the event, Nike SB produced a limited number of T-shirts and Nike SB shoes. The first offering of specially packaged graphic tees feature designs by renowned street artists Neckface, Futura, CR Stecyk III and skateboarder Lance Mountain. Most notably is the conception of the Paper Dunk High designed by Geoff McFetridge, which is composed from an original piece of the artist’s artwork. Limited to 24 unique pairs and displayed at MOCA’s retail shop, they will be auctioned on May 26, 2011 starting at $100.00 with all proceeds donated to the MOCA foundation.

The second offering of goods include a blazer by Lance Mountain and T-shirts from the likes of artists Geoff McFetridge, CY Stecyk III, Aaron Reimer and Gusmano Cesaretti to be sold in June.

MOCA’s “Art in the Streets” exhibit will continue to run until August 8, 2011.

Retna at MOCA “Art in the Streets”

Having adopted the name “Retna” from a popular Wu-Tang Clan song, Los Angeles-born artist Marquis Lewis has made quite a name for himself in the world of street art. His rise came during the mid-1990s as he began painting murals on walls, trains and freeway overpasses throughout the city using a series of symbols inspired by a mixture of ancient Incan and Egyptian hieroglyphics, Arabic, Hebrew, and Asian caligraphy and graffiti. For “Art in the Streets,” the MOCA has chosen to feature some of Retna’s more popular works.
